JOVE scholarships are available to chemistry and physics majors through the NASA-JOVE (Joint Venture) program through the College of Science and Technology. These scholarships of $500 per semester are available to qualified students(ACT Science/Math, GPA) who are currently pursuing one of these majors. Interested students should come by the Departmental Office to pick up an application. Decisions are made twice a year.
For students pursuing a chemistry major, especially an ACS certified degree, the Department has recently received a very generous Charles Monday Endowed Scholarship in Chemistry awarded to qualified chemistry majors. Again, interested students should speak to a chemistry faculty member or stop by the department office for more details.
We encourage our chemistry majors to seek summer employment in a related field of interest to them. This can include carrying out research at a university in or out of the state through, for instance, the NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates Program (REU). Many sites around the country offer these 10 week courses which are both highly educational and fun.
Both chemistry and physics faculty are currently involved in active research projects that attract both internal and external funding. These projects have resulted in many recent presentations at local, state and regional, and national levels.
